Hot Cocoa for One

I have finally perfected my homemade hot cocoa recipe! I have never really been a big fan of the “Add water” pre-packaged variety with its overly sweet taste, and only 6 oz of water?- that’s about 2 gulps. This recipe makes a satisfying cup of cocoa that is rich, creamy homemade, and healthy to boot. 82 calories per serving made with 2% milk.

Hot Cocoa For One

1/4 c 2% milk

8 oz. water

1 T sugar

1/2 T Cocoa Powder (Good quality makes a difference, I use Hersheys)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Combine milk and cocoa in a mug and microwave for 1 1/2 minutes.
2. In a separate mug, combine sugar and cocoa.
3. Pour milk mixture into mug on top of sugar/cocoa mixture.
4. Microwave another 30 seconds.  Really! Even if your cocoa is already hot enough for you, I have found this step to be key. If you do not microwave again, the flavors do not really combine and the taste is milked down. Sit down and enjoy!
